CEO, Cincinnati Country Day School

by Elizabeth Miller Wood

ASK ME ABOUT: What it means for Cincinnati Country Day School to be recently ranked the region’s No. 1 private school by Niche.

WHAT DOES A NO. 1 RANKING SIGNIFY IN TERMS OF THE STUDENT, FACULTY, AND PARENT EXPERIENCE AT CINCINNATI COUNTRY DAY? It’s certainly flattering, and it reaffirms our belief that Country Day provides the finest 18-month-to-18-years education in the city. But the truth is we don’t get too carried away with rankings. We measure ourselves much more on the quality of our relationships than the results of any rankings.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL ARE THE STRONGEST DIFFERENTIATORS OF A CCDS EDUCATION COMPARED TO OTHER PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS? First-time visitors often comment on our campus and our community. We’re fortunate to have a bucolic 60-acre campus in the heart of Indian Hill, and we create a “second home” environment for our community. But to me it’s our exceptional teachers that make the difference. There’s nothing more powerful in education than a talented teacher who knows, nurtures, and inspires a student.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO RETURN TO YOUR ALMA MATER AS HEAD OF SCHOOL AFTER A LAW CAREER? A sense of gratitude. As an alumnus, I have personally experienced the transformative effect of a Country Day education. I feel fortunate to have a chance to steward that tradition of excellence for the next generation.
