ASK ME ABOUT My his new role as the Zoo celebrates its 150th anniversary.
HOW WILL YOUR DECADES-LONG EXPERIENCE WITH THE ZOO ENHANCE YOUR LEADERSHIP? Over the years, I’ve worked with every department and know almost every staff member. We are fortunate to have an exceptional team that’s dedicated to every detail of operating a world-class zoo. My job is to support their work and shine a light on the impact they create. I do that by remembering to be kind, be curious, and work hard.
WHAT MAKES THE CINCINNATI ZOO & BOTANICAL GARDEN UNIQUE? We’ve been a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums since 1978. The bar is high to be accredited by the AZA, so all member organizations are exceptional. Our commitment to animal and plant excellence creates a beautiful park for visitors to be inspired by wildlife. But the true magic lies with creating memorable experiences that lead to lasting impact for people and wildlife both across the street and across the globe.
WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES FOR THE ZOO’S FUTURE? For 150 years, this Zoo has stood for more than a visit. It stands for care. For science. For education. And, most importantly, for hope—for wildlife and for the people who believe their actions can shape a better future. I’m focused on creating a future where people and wildlife can thrive together. Much of our conservation work focuses on human/wildlife coexistence and partnering with communities to protect species that share the same space. We’re thrilled to begin construction soon on Giraffe Tower, a state-of-the-art facility that will allow us to double our giraffe herd and double the excitement.
